Bridging Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services

Orientation to the Curriculum

The course covers eleven (11) core competency content areas divided into learning modules. Each module offers learning activities, Web resource links, and a learning integration self-test. The last module of each competency offers a test of the competency content area.

The course fee is $75.00. Payment can be processed on line or through a check or money order through the registration or log-in process.

Registration: Password & Process

Payment may be processed online or through a check or money order. If credit card payment is received on-line, you will be provided with full and immediate access to the course. However, if you pay with a check or money order, only competencies 1 & 2 will be available. Once payment is approved, your password is released and the entire curriculum will be accessible to you. If you only wish to review the curriculum, registration is required and you will have access to competencies 1 & 2.

Please note that your password can be used to access the course for up to 6 months, after which time it will expire.

Display Logistics

Each core competency area has links to the individual learning modules within that content area. Each module requires vertical scrolling to review its content. The modules in each competency area require reviewing in sequential order. If you exit before completing all the learning modules for a particular competency area, you can re-enter only at the beginning of the first module of that particular content area. You can, however, toggle back and forth between adjoining modules. The system does not “bookmark” the page where you last left off, but you can select any competency area you like.

Record of Your Progress

You can access a menu that displays what competency areas you have completed.

Once registered, you have access to various video clips throughout the curriculum (introductory competency areas 1 & 2 do not have video access). You can view the video with Macromedia Flash (™), Windows Media Player (™) or Apple QuickTime (™). If you do not have these plug-ins you may click on the previous links to obtain them.

Certificates of Completion

When tests are passed with at least 80% correct answers, and an evaluation form is completed, certificates of completion for each area are emailed to course participants. Tests can be attempted an unlimited number of times. A course certificate of completion is sent as an Adobe Acrobat document (PDF). You must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to open, print or save it. You can get a free copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in from .

The course has been submitted to professional boards for continuing contact hours and 17 contact hours are available for nurses, psychologists, alcohol and drugs counselors, social workers, licensed clinical counselors and other professionals.

References and resources for each core competency are provided, as well as an on-line resource list.
